Beautiful roads and riding, with only a handful of minor delays for construction. I passed a number of smaller ski areas – low-key old-school places that I would probably enjoy.

NZ Day 15: Goodbye Bottom of the World
I left the coastal road with it’s heavy trucks behind and rode into the rural Canterbury Plain. What started as a bad day turned very, very good with the sun shining and the fresh air blowing through.
NZ Day 14: Wanaka to Dunedin
The past 10 days could well be described as “Adventures Around 45 South.” I’m beginning to think I could have just cut everything else out and made that the theme for the full trip.
NZ Day 13: Last Day in Wanaka
The ride was beautiful. Near perfect small curves above the lake on the Wanaka side, and longer sweeping curves with some up and downhills on the Hawea side.
NZ Day 12: Day ride to Queenstown, Glenorchy
Variable weather and some good judgement Also, thoughts about the CB500X The day started with beautiful weather. A bit breezy early, but it calmed completely by the time we were done with breakfast. I decided that since I had planned on a few of the great New Zealand motorcycle rides, today was a good day….
NZ Misc.: Sandfly bite update
I hate the little buggers. 3 days later the backs of my hands and my ankles still look like I’ve got some kind of tropical disease.
NZ Day 10: Te Anau to Wanaka in strong wind
Said goodby and rode east in warm gusty winds. For the first time I switched to perforated gloves and took the waterproof liner out of my jacket.
NZ Day 9: Te Anau
I like this place and could easily stay another week. But it’s time to move on.
NZ Day 7-8: Doubtful Sound
Every gully in the surrounding mountains turned into a cascading waterfall. I ended the second day exhausted.
NZ Day 6: Milford Sound
Towards the end of the trip, the boat went nose-in to one of the smaller waterfalls, spraying the two of us with fresh glacier melt while everybody else ran for cover.
